Applications for Satellite Meetings to be run in partnership with the NeuroAlliance 2026 are now open.

 

Satellite Meeting organisers are entitled to claim up to $20 per meeting registrant in subsidy, up to a maximum of $1,000 for the purpose of reducing the meeting registration fees (see policy for details).

 

In addition, as a special additional incentive this year, Satellite Meeting participants are entitled to claim a $136 discounted registration for the NeuroAlliance 2026 meeting (on FULL member or non-member registrations only – i.e. not early bird registrations and not student registrations as these already operate at a loss). For each full registration purchased through a Satellite Meeting, Satellite Meeting organisers will receive an additional $30 reimbursement.

Organisers must complete an online Expression of Interest Form as soon as possible, and no later than two weeks prior to the Satellite Meeting.

The Molecular and Cellular Cognition Society (MCCS-Asia Pacific) Satellite Meeting is a forum for local researchers investigating the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying learning, memory, and cognition. The 2026 meeting will focus on emerging discoveries positioning RNA as a central regulator of cognitive function across multiple levels of biological organisation, from synapses and neural circuits to behaviour and disease.

Recent advances have transformed our understanding of RNA from a passive intermediary between genes and proteins to a dynamic regulator of neuronal function. Diverse RNA species, including non-coding RNAs, circular RNAs, RNA modifications, and locally translated transcripts, have emerged as critical mediators of synaptic plasticity, memory formation, cognitive flexibility, and brain health. Simultaneously, rapid progress in RNA technologies is creating unprecedented opportunities to develop novel therapeutics for neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders.

This meeting will bring together internationally recognised leaders in memory research, synaptic biology, RNA neuroscience, epigenetics, and systems neuroscience to discuss how RNA-mediated mechanisms shape cognition and how these discoveries may be translated into next-generation therapeutics.

The specific aims of the meeting are to:

  1. Highlight recent advances in RNA-mediated regulation of learning, memory, and cognition.
  2. Promote interdisciplinary interactions between molecular, cellular, systems, and computational neuroscientists.
  3. Foster new national and international collaborations within the molecular and cellular cognition community.
  4. Provide networking and mentoring opportunities for students and early-career researchers.
  5. Explore emerging opportunities for RNA-based therapeutics targeting neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Motivated behaviour is shaped by complex interactions between homeostatic, sensory, reward and stress-related neural systems. This joint satellite meeting brings together researchers from three different Australasian societies spanning across hypothalamic neuroscience, neuroendocrinology, appetitive motivation and addiction neuroscience to explore how these interactions shape behaviour, reward and vulnerability to compulsive or addictive behaviours. For early-career researchers, the meeting provides significant opportunities to present their work, forge new collaborations, and network with both national and international leaders in the field.
